General presentation
In the High Country of Nice, 1 hour from Nice, its airport and its mediterranean beaches, discover this destination between sea and mountain characterized by its pure air, invigorating temperatures and serenity.
Born from water, meetings, and faith.
Ten centuries of history have made up our village, born at the cross point of the torrents from the Boréon and the Fenestre.
• Our history was built up on the many spring waters that flow from our mountains, one of them which has flowed through the heart of the village since the middle ages in a curious canal called the “Bial”. It is because of this stream that Saint-Martin Vésubie was one of the first villages to have electricity power for public lighting (since 1893).
• A story telling the exchanges between France and the Duchess of Savoie and later with the Italians, left us with a defence wall, a fortified gate and a palace for family of rich merchants.
• Ancestral faith is engraved in our history from our beautiful parish church which was built in the 17th century. Two chapels “The Black Penitents” and “The White Penitents” located just off the main high street in the village and the famous procession from the village to the Sanctuary of the Madone of Fenestre which has been taking place for over a thousand years. Throughout the “Route de Brea” you may take the opportunity to admire works of art in their original place.
With this nature and mountain identity, Saint-Martin Vésubie offers you unforgettable winter moments!
Its terrain, rich in activities and breathtaking snowy landscapes, will leave you a wide choice of outings and types of sport to practice.
So, discover the snow-covered snowshoe trails or ski touring, discover the joys of family skiing at the Nordic Center Boréon and vibrate to the sound of ice axes and crampons on the icefall.
