Lourdes is a historic town in the Bigorre region of France, with a population of 13,692. It is located in the Hautes-Pyrénées department and in the Occitanie-Pyrénées-Méditerranée region.
A Catholic pilgrimage center since the apparitions of Lourdes in 1858 and classified as a Great Site of Midi-Pyrénées since 2009, it is the fourth most visited Catholic pilgrimage site after the Vatican, the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico City and the Basilica of Our Lady of Aparecida in Brazil.
Each year, it welcomes 3 million pilgrims or visitors from all over the world, including approximately 60,000 patients.
With nearly 10,000 hotel rooms (approximately 21,200 beds), Lourdes is the second largest hotel city in France, after Paris.
