Location History
The Grand Palais was built for the Universal Exhibition of 1900, and was designed by 4 architects : Deglane, Louvet, Thomas and Girault. This building is the culmination of the eclecticism to the Beaux - Arts style, characterized by several architectural styles of different times (from the antiquity to the nineteenth century).
In May 1937, under the leadership of Jean Perrin, Nobel Prize in Physics in 1926, the temporary exhibition Palais de la Découverte was born. With its exceptional attendance for this time, more than 2 million visitors, the government decided to continue this project with the creation of a museum dedicated to sciences.
The building was also the first to open a planetarium in France.
