General presentation

In the heart of Normandy, this 19th century Anglo-Norman half-timbered manor house is situated in an impressionist landscape between two arms of the Seine. The mill of Connelles in its present form has had several owners before being transformed into a hotel-restaurant at the end of the 1970s. It is situated on a private island, surrounded by a three hectare park, bordered by two arms of the Seine. The mill has 13 suites, a restaurant with a veranda overlooking the Seine and a swimming pool.

Location History
The Connelles mill was built in 1683 and was owned by the Barony of Hauqueville. When it was first built, the mill was intended exclusively to grind the wheat of the Barony's vassals. The mill at Connelles was a pendulum wheel mill similar to those at Andé and Muids. The millers were the intermediaries between the local nobility and the peasants.
Around 1905 the miller's house still stands and the mill was rebuilt as a manor house, the second stage being initiated a little before 1920. The mill at Connelles can be considered to have functioned as such until 1860. The mill mechanism was dismantled in the early 1900s.
