Location History
The House of Oceans, formerly known as the Oceanographic Institute of Paris, has been inaugurated in 1911. It belongs, with the Oceanographic Museum of Monaco, to the Prince Albert the First of Monaco Foundation. The architect Henri-Paul Nénot, who has built the House, has also drawn up the plans of the Meurice Hotel and of the Institutes of the Nouvelle Sorbonne. Since its creation, the Oceanographic Institute positions itself as a mediator between the civil society, the scientific world, medias, and the politician decision-makers, with the concern to share knowledge and make accessible the oceanographic science to the greatest number of people. It has been classified a Historic Monument on November the 4th of 2004.
