General presentation

The Gaube valley is located in the central part of the French Pyrenees, above the town of Cauterets in the Hautes-Pyrénées department, in the Lavedan region of Occitanie.
It takes its name from Lac de Gaube.
Oriented south-north, the valley stretches for around 9 km, with an average width of 2 km. It is wedged between the Jéret valley to the north, the Lutour valley to the east, the Pouey Trenous valley in the Marcadau valley to the west, the Ossoue valley to the southeast and Spain to the southwest. It lies in the Vignemale massif.
It falls entirely within the commune of Cauterets and is included in the Pyrenees National Park (protected area).
