General presentation

Located at the mouth of the Charente, the peninsula of Fouras-les-Bains stretches over 4 kilometres of fine sandy beaches, as well as three ports. This peninsula has kept its 19th century charm by revealing beautiful villas along the beaches, going from a neo-flamboyant style to the art nouveau of the beginning of the last century. Surrounded by the islands of Aix, Oléron and Ré, the seaside resort also offers a setting of holm oaks and pines on a whole part of the commune where one finds stylised "belle époque" villas. Inland, the more modest streets recall the harbour atmosphere of the fishing ports.
The port of La Fumée provides permanent maritime links with the island of Aix.
The television game Fort Boyard has contributed to the town's fame since 1990.
