Location History
In 1894, Clémence d'Ennery bequeathed her Asian collection to the State. This collection illustrated daily life and beliefs in China and Japan.
Georges Clémenceau and Emile Guimet helped her creating the public museum that was inaugurated in 1908 and remains today. It is an expression of the european taste for Asian Art in the XIXth century.

The mansion, built in 1875, is caracteristic of the Second Empire (1852 - 1870). Both the building and the furniture were made to receive the collection. For example, the objets are exhibited in Asian-inspired marquetry windows, specially made for the occasion.
