By 1060,while the two abbeys were being built,GLC had the remparts of Caen's castle over the heights of a rocky spur built,overlooking the Orne river.At that time,the main entrance which was protected by a powerful door-tower was turned towards the north.This place was the most vulnerable area of the"place-forte",it now leads to the current university of Caen.In the south,a former little postern became the main entrance(porte saint Pierre) in the 13th century.In the east"la porte des champs" was built in the same period.Different towers overlook the remparts including"la tour puchot"at the north-west angle.Inside the enclosure,Saint george's church which was erected in the 12th century ,is located between the museum of Normandy(archaelogy and tradition of normandy)and the museum of atrs(paintings collection from the 16th and 17th centuries.A garden of the simples presents the varied aromatic plants of our region
