Location History
To promote their community life and fit into the city to ensure their preaching missions, Dominicans start in 1229 the project of a convent. The first stone of the church was laid December 24, 1230 and the convent was completed around 1250. The Convent of the Jacobins enjoyed strong period of expansion and major expansion incurred. They will last until 1341.Le Jacobin convent experience a checkered history from the late eighteenth century. It is closed during the Revolution. In 1810, Napoleon affects the building to the army and much of it is converted into stables. Following the intervention of Prosper Merimee in 1847, the army finally left the convent and the restoration work can be undertaken. They will last well into the twentieth century.
