Location History
In 1787, the duke of Chartres made build close to the village of Monceau one of the first irregular gardens of Anglo-Chinese style. The landscape designers Carmontelle and Blaikie designed the garden like a cabinet of curiosities in the open air. Nature was represented by rivers, glazing bar, rocks, caves. One still sees the Egyptian pyramid and the colonnade of Naumachie, the famous basin surrounded of columns in ruins, of the name of the naval actions of Antiquity. In 1860, at the time of the fastening of the village of Monceau in Paris, the park was surrounded gilded grids and doors, and was refitted in landscaped garden.
