Capvern or Capvern-les-Bains, is a French commune located in the department of Hautes-Pyrénées, in the Occitanie region.
Capvern is known as a spa in the Pyrenean foothills. It is a spa nestled in the foothills of the Pyrenees at 475 meters above sea level, on the plateau of Lannemezan and the river Bouès.
Between Tournay in the west and Lannemezan in the east, the access can be done by the station of Capvern (SNCF), the national road 117 or the highway A64 exit 15.
Thermal station : The thermal water of the station of Capvern-les-Bains gushes out of two sources located at a few hundred meters one from the other, the thermal water of Hount Caoute ("hot fountain "1) and the thermal water of Bouridé, two waters with exceptional virtues. The Hount Caoute spring has a flow of 480,000 liters per day and a temperature of 23.3°C at the griffon. The Bouridé spring has a daily flow of 120,000 liters and a temperature of 19.2°C. The main indications at present are: kidneys and urinary tract, metabolism and overweight, cholesterol and rheumatology. The first indication of Capvern remains the kidneys with excellent results in the elimination of kidney stones and the "cleaning" of the kidneys after a lithotripsy.
The treatment of the gout of the Roman legionaries seems to have been the first indication of the station.
Montaigne came to Capvern for a cure in 1568. However, the development of the spa dates from the end of the 19th century, the heyday of Pyrenean thermalism.
Its first slogan, launched in 1875, is unstoppable: "If your bladder is threatened, Capvern will be the panacea"! The springs of Capvern-les-Bains have allowed to treat a great number of famous curists: Marshal de Lattre de Tassigny, Montgomery, Fernandel, Georges Brassens, André Dassary, Albert Ferrasse, Mady Mesplé, Françoise Rosay...
