At the beginning of the 16th century, François Ier is at war against Charles the Fifth, king of Spain ( 1516 ) and emperor of the Holy Roman Empire ( 1520 ), who possesses the Netherlands, Flanders and Artois.Picardy, then border the North of the kingdom of France, is regularly destroyed by the Spanish troops and it is to protect this border which François Ier endowed Doullens of an important and luxurious citadel of wills from 1530. Nowadays, property of the General Council, construction sites of insertion are organized to maintain buildings as well as green spaces.
