In 1148 Jean Le Roux d'Aile gives the whole left bank of the stream of Saint-Pierre-Aigle de Viviers monks who settled there. Happy to find the calm they call this place "Vallis Serena" the peaceful valley that will Valsery. In 1359, the English come to Valsery. They ransacked everything and set fire to the abbey. The monks begin reconstruction until 1414 where they are again massacred by the invading Burgundians.
