Le Viking cinema, located at 68, rue de la République in Le Neubourg, was built in 1957 on the initiative of Pierre Lachaux, then manager of the neighbouring Le Grand Saint-Martin restaurant. It is the only venue in Haute-Normandie to have retained the 1950s-1960s architectural style. With 401 seats, a 12-metre-long screen and a balcony, it is one of the town's major cultural centres.
Over the decades, Le Viking has undergone a number of improvements to enhance audience comfort, while preserving its original décor, which contributes to its unique charm. In 1974, the municipality of Le Neubourg bought the cinema and, since then, local councillors have provided logistical and financial support to keep it running. This commitment enables the cinema to offer a rich and varied cultural programme throughout the year.
Today, Le Viking offers screenings in 4K digital and 35mm, and has a reception area with a ticket office for films and shows. It is accessible via two entrances: under the porch of the Saint-Martin and via the cinema car park on rue Bioche, with an access ramp for people with disabilities.
Le Viking cinema remains an emblematic venue in Le Neubourg, appreciated as much for its architectural heritage as for its central role in local cultural life.
