Location History
The chateau and gardens of Versailles, which count amongst the most illustrious monuments of the world heritage, represent the most beautiful and complete achievement of the 17th century french arts. Laid-out between 1661 and 1700 by Lenôtre who flattened, drained and designed perspectives, boskets, canal and borders, Versailles is the model of the French garden. It is ornated with more than 400 marble, bronze or lead statues along with water basins. The ancient myth of Apollo’ sun is ever present. The gardens have been restored on several occasions respecting Lenôtre design or not.
