Location History
The Versailles estate used to be Louis XIII's hunting lodge. From that period, the façade made of brick and stone remains. For political reasons, Louis XIV commanded a huge palace, reflect of his influence and residence for his court. The hunting lodge became the Chateau de Versailles that we know today. Le Nôtre designed the gardens, both the perspectives and the groves. The XVIIIth and XIXth centuries brought their own transformations. For example, in the XIXth century, Versailles became a museum to the glory of France.
