Location History
The central point from which all the buildings fanned outwards from the keep, the Cour Ovale more or less marks the position of the original Château de Fontainebleau (aside from a tidy-up of the layout at the end of the Renaissance). Lined with 16th and 17th century facades, it opens to the south through the former fortified entrance (the Porte Dorée), and since Henry IV’s time opens to the east onto the Cour des Offices (Baptistry entrance).
All of the castle is classified in the UNESCO world heritage.
