Built between 1941 and 1944, north of Sainte-Mère-Eglise, the Azeville battery is an important fortification of the Atlantic Wall, loaded from the interior to protect the coast beaches of Cotentin. equipped with an impressive underground complex and a complete defensive system, it is one of the priority objectives of the Allies on 6 June 1944. Taking part in the fight early in the landing, she bombards all the Utah Beach sector for over 3 days. She significantly delays the allied forces that eventually the round. The position falls June 9, 1944 after heavy fighting.
